The VNI8200 is the new generation and has a 110 mOhm RDSON per channel, so brings a 30% improvement versus the VN808. The purpose of a multi channel IPS, however, is not to only decrease the RDSON by putting the outputs in parallel. The main purpose is to drive several loads in a small space and hence decrease the cost of the final application. The VNI8200 integrates the traditional safety features of an IPS, like current limitation, junction and case over-temperature shutdown. It also integrates an optional SPI. The pin SEL1 allows to program the chip in SPI bus or parallel bus. A parallel bus is faster to turn on and off a channel, but the main advantage of the SPI is the cost saving for the optocouplers, as applications requiring an IPS often need isolation.
