The Production Parts Approval Process, or PPAP, specifies all of the documentation or certification and samples that a supplier must do to have a device classified as automotive grade. The documentation covers all the phases of the production of a semiconductor: design, manufacturing processes, testing, reliability, certification. The PPAP has five levels, usually the customers request the level one and the level three. Level one is a part submission warrant, just one document that certifies that the device is automotive grade qualified. The level three is a request that is commonly requested following the level one. Level three is not only the part submission warrant, but also includes all documentation and certifications requested by PPAP. Samples are shipped with the level three if requested.
