If a supplier will not ship parts with risk of failure to the customer, it is easier to reach the Zero-defect level of quality. The failure can result from a bad manufacturing process or specifically from an issue in the automotive application. To remove the parts with a risk of failure, the Automotive Electronics Council has issued some key criteria to follow when a supplier designs, qualifies, tests, and manufactures the parts in order to have a device for automotive application. A product compliant with these requirement is an automotive grade device.
