Range is the maximum amplitude that an accelerometer can measure before distortion or clipping on the output signal occurs and is measured in g’s. It is an important specification because it determines the maximum g load that the device can accurately measure. Consumer applications typically use 1.5g to 8g accelerometers while industrial and automotive grade parts ranging up to 15g are needed. Many of Kionix’s accelerometers offer user programmable ranges from ±2g to ±8g or ±2g to ±16g to meet specific applications.
