The RL78 has 4 different LCD drive series devices shown on the left: L12, L13, L1A with rich analog peripherals, and L1C with USB. The hallmark of the RL78 LCD series is having an LCD controller driver with 3 different LCD drive methods. Some highlights of RL78/L12 are: The L12 has efficient pin counts for small to medium segmented LCD panel types with 32-pin to 64-pin options. A 64-pin L12 can drive up to 156 LCD segments in x4 multiplexed mode, or up to 280 LCD segments in x8 multiplexed mode. Any unused LCD drive pins can be programmed to General Purpose I/O mode. The L12 can run the Real Time Clock and Display while in STOP mode with a average current drain less than 1.25µA.
