The next feature improvement is for the Cap Touch capability that was mentioned earlier. The new CTSU2 implemented on the RX140 improves many characteristics from the earlier design. Noise Immunity is improved, providing higher electrical and radioactive noise tolerance, which can make it easier to gain confidence in touch accuracy in the end design regardless of environmental factors. Sensor Accuracy has also been improved, with better compensation for variations due to temperature drifts. The earlier CTSU has good performance in water conditions for the mutual capacitance method but didn’t operate as well when using the self-capacitance method. By reducing the capacitance change for water adhesion in wet environments, Renesas has made it possible to successfully use the self-capacitance method in wet environments. These product improvements can provide many design benefits, including reduced noise malfunctions, higher sensor precision and accuracy, and additional design possibilities in extreme environments.
