LED Flash Controllers are used to control very bright, high-current carrying LEDs that are used in high resolution digital cameras to provide more light for better picture quality.  In such applications, the traditional xenon flash solutions cannot be used because they are too bulky. Further, the use of an LED as a light source provides the added benefit of being used as light source for recording videos.
