These parts offer an industry standard UART register set similar to the SC16C750B, therefore, the software can be easily ported from the standard UART to support this device. Besides the 64-byte FIFO and other standard UART function, the device also offers fully automatic RS-485 support. It can detect its own RS-485 address and only interrupt the host and start receive the data if it recognizes its own address on the RS-485 bus. The device also comes with 8 GPIO pins, four of which can be used a traditional modem pins if needed; otherwise they come up as generic GPIO after reset. The maximum I²C bus speed is up to 400 kilo bits per second and the SPI bus maximum speed is 15 mega bits per second. The part can be put in sleep mode to reduce current consumption. While in the sleep mode the device draws less than 30 micro amps.
