This slide shows a typical use in the RS-485 network. The SC16IS7xx has built-in RS-485 automatic support; this feature reduces the frequency of false trigger interrupts the UART sends to the host. With other UART when there is traffic on the RS-485 bus the UART will capture the traffic data, generates an interrupt to the host even though the data are not sent to it. With the SC16IS750, the auto RS-485 allows the device to capture the traffic data only if the traffic is sent to it.
