The first three metal-alloy series are FDV, FDA, and FDU. The FDV and FDU Series use a 1st generation metal-alloy core while the FDVE and FDUE versions have the same construction but utilize a 2nd generation metal-alloy core. The FDVE and FDUE versions do not offer as many inductance choices, but the 2nd generation metal-alloy core gives the FD Series added core saturation stability and higher current handling options. The FDV/FDVE Series is a medium size inductor with currents between 2.8 and 20 A. This metal-alloy power inductor provides a wide inductance selection and connects the coil to the external terminal inside of the structure for mounting stability. The FDA Series uses larger sizes for higher current handling but offers fewer inductance values than FDV. With a thicker flat wire coil construction, FDA Series offers lower RDC than the FDV Series with current ratings between 7 and 23 A. The use of self-termination extends the coil to provide a direct connection from board to inductor, providing higher reliability. Case sizes range up to 14 mm and a dummy terminal is used for mounting stability. The FDU/FDUE Series presents a cost improved 14mm package size. This new design utilizes self-termination for higher reliability eliminating the need for a dummy terminal for stable mounting. These inductors have higher current ratings, ranging between 16 and 42 A, available in a limited number of inductance values compared to FDA.
