Murata is constantly driving to decrease the size of power inductors. Ferrite power inductors are reaching sizes and characteristics that are ideal for board space savings, while maintaining the high range of inductance values and current handling capabilities. With the metal-alloy power inductors, Murata is able to offer smaller case sizes with large currents to accommodate various applications. The chart on this slide shows three 4.7 µH inductors and their package size for comparison. The metal-alloy component offers a smaller case size with comparable Isat performance and slightly higher RDC. The smaller ferrite power inductor offers a similar performance as compared to its larger counterpart.
