Murata has developed ferrite and metal-alloy power inductors to fill the evolving needs of the market. While ferrite inductors offer higher inductance values than metal-alloy, one drawback is the inductance loss during temperature and current variations. As can be seen in the graph on the left side of this slide, the inductance values decrease significantly with increases in temperature and current. This design drawback is something that has been addressed by engineers in the past. While Murata continues to improve on the capabilities of ferrite core inductors, the company has developed the metal-alloy core to overcome the immediate impact of temperature and current variations.
