The address pins and the corresponding chip select bits in the control byte offer a solution to have up to eight EEPROM devices on the bus. There are a total of eight different combinations for the three address pins on the EEPROM as each of them can be connected to Vcc or ground. The control byte contains three chip select bits that must be programmed to correspond to the logic levels of the A0, A1, and A2 address pins. This is done so that the master can specify which EEPROM it wants to address. The illustration shows the address pins connected to ground and the chip select bits to all be low, or 000.
