The MAX31910 through MAX31913 are eight channel digital input serializers that implement the current limiting technique described earlier as one of the best-in-class options for power dissipation and heat generation. The MAX31912 and MAX31913 have energy-less LED drivers which take advantage of the power of the incoming signal for indication. Selectable on-chip lowpass filters allow flexible debouncing and filtering of sensor outputs based on the application. The serializer outputs data to the controller via a SPI interface. Thus, only the three I/O’s of the serial interface require isolation, as compared to one per channel with a traditional discrete solution. For enhanced robustness with respect to high-frequency noise and fast electrical transients, a multibit CRC code is generated and transmitted through the SPI port for each 8 bits of data. The on-chip 5 V voltage regulator can be used to power external optocouplers, digital isolators, or other external 5 V circuitry.
