The second and primary method is by the MLCC absorbing the charge of the ESD source. This method can be modeled by a simple schematic showing a charged capacitor discharging into another capacitor through a switch. When the switch is open, the two capacitors are not electrically connected and have no influence on one another. When voltage is applied to capacitor “C1”, it will have a charge “Q1” which is the product of the Capacitance “C1” and Voltage “V1”.
