diverting
There are two methods that MLCCs use to protect integrated circuits from ESD pulses. The first method is by diverting the charge due to the ESD capacitors low impedance during the high speed transient pulse. When the ESD event occurs, some of the charge gets shunted to ground and is prevented from reaching the integrated circuit.
