Summary

In summary, this presentation delivered an introduction to radar-based motion detectors and the differences between 10 GHz and 24 GHz solutions. Also, the radar front end IMD-1100 was presented as competitive substitution for outdated 10 GHz devices. Motion detectors give consumers the opportunity for automatic or contactless control of various devices. The 10 GHz radar sensors were an option for more than 20 years as an alternative to PIR because the technologies shared similar price and functionality. However, in cases of complex motion detection applications they reach their limits. Because the development potential of 10 GHz radars has reached a limit, integrators began to search for a new solution within the radar technology domain to harness the benefits of radar and require less effort. Engineers and developers discovered what they were looking for with the forthcoming 24 GHz radars. Thanks to technical innovations they also became attractive to the low-budget market. In comparison to 10 GHz sensors, 24 GHz radar devices offers more functionality and better performance. The IMD-1100 is especially designed for previous 10 GHz customers and meets the requirements for simple motion detection applications perfectly. It is the smallest and cheapest product in InnoSenTs portfolio and possibly in the market. Despite its low price, the quality standards of sensor production and handling are high. It is suitable for high volume production. The IMD-1100 makes it is easy to change from 10 GHz to advanced 24 GHz radar technology.
