Fault protections are routine events, but there are other considerations that must be examined if any of the following events occur: The wrong load or an overload is connected, the load is stalled or develops a short circuit or partial short circuit, a foreign object like a screwdriver shorts the load or module cooling proves insufficient in extreme circumstances and devices overheat. For short circuit overload protection, system designers added individual fuses. If slight overload and overheating is considered, a complex module level protection would be needed. Such approaches only serve to increase both the complexity and cost of the circuit.
