External power supplies need to meet certain requirements when measured in active mode and no-load mode. In the active mode, the power supply is connected to the AC line and to an AC or DC load. The load can be partial or full load. In no-load mode, the power supply is connected to an AC line input but the output is not connected to a load. Future European Union requirements, which are currently voluntary, introduce an efficiency measure under 10% load conditions.
