As a consequence of the reduction in losses in the system, a reduction in the thermal stresses of the power switching devices and heatsink will result. This plot shows the direct effect of changing the inverter diodes to SiC Schottkys. Also, the effect of gate optimization is shown (39, 22 and 10 corresponds to the gate resistance value in Ohms). The reduced temperatures can increase system reliability and reduce dependence on large, heavy heatsinks or other expensive methods to remove heat from the system.
