Snap switches produce a distinctive snapping sound when actuated. The speed of making or breaking the circuit is independent from the actuator speed. Typically used to prevent accidentally turning something on or off, or to prevent activation without authorization, the lock switch has a lock integrated into the switch to control the operation of the switch. The lock switch does not necessarily involve a key. Tact switches are small footprint switches which provide a distinctive tactile feel. Actuation is accomplished when the switch is pressed down, the dome inside gives way and the switch changes state. A thumbwheel is a multi-position rotary switch which moves like a wheel and is typically operated by a thumb or finger to select a position. Lastly, the tilt switch is a switch which activates when it is tilted or moved out of position. The tilt switch can have either normally open or normally closed contacts.
