Common switch types include many different styles and forms that can be utilized for general or specific applications. Detect switches are used to detect operating position, pressure, tampering, or etc. Typically with a small footprint, they are flexible to meet many applications, can be sealed, and can also be used in place of slide switches. DIP, or Dual Inline Package, switches are useful for manually configuring a device via hardware. They are available with slide, rocker, or rotary actuators. A Hall Effect switch is a contactless switch which uses a magnet and a Hall sensor to provide a variable output. Hall effect switches are typically used in applications where long life and high reliability are needed. The hook switch can be a mechanical or optical switch which is commonly used in telephone and headset applications to initiate, answer, and end a telephone call. Historically, the switch beneath the keys of a computer keyboard have been the primary application of the key switch, they now can be found on a wide range of applications.
