Gateways/Concentrators are used in many different applications and require different interfaces for these applications. A summary of three different types of Gateways/Concentrators are illustrated on this slide. Gateways and Concentrators have similarities and this slide can be used as a reference for other types of Gateways/Concentrators also. The following is a brief description of the interfaces required for the included Gateway/Concentrators. An Industrial Gateway consists of CAN, RS-485 (USART,) and Ethernet; an AMI Gateway (smartgrid) features ZigBee (SPI,) PLC (SPI,) and Wi-Fi (SDIO); and a Prime Concentrator has PLC (SPI) and GSM (SDIO/SPI). Microchip offers products that are ideal for Gateway/Concentrator applications such as the Cortex-A5–based SAMA5D35 eMPU which offers high performance, multiple serial peripheral interfaces for communication such as SPI, SDIO, USARTS, CAN, and Ethernet. In addition, an EBI and a MLC/SLC NAND Controller is integrated in the ATSAMA5D35. The MLC/SLC NAND has 24-Bit Error correction which critical for interfacing to Raw NAND Flash. Also offered are Power Line Communications devices such as the ATPL100A for AMI Gateways or the ATPL220A for Prime based Concentrators. Microchip's RF Transceivers (AT86RF231/AT86RF233/AT86RF212) to pair with the ATSAMA5D35 support wireless communication protocols. The ATSHA204 is offered for security; it can be added to increase the level of security for Key Storage. For Temperature Sensing, Microchip offers the AT30TS devices. In addition, Microchip offers a complete Development Ecosystem, such as Linux OS Support as well as Wi-Fi Support from Microchip's Wi-Fi Partners (H&D Wireless and Redpine Signals).
