Microchip has added capacitive touch support to all 8- and 32-bit microcontrollers. Acquisition is driven by production-ready software, and requires a minimum of external passive components. Some 8- and 32-bit Microchip AVR® microcontrollers even offer a hardware front-end for acquisition of sensor data, which eliminates time restraints from the user’s application. Microchip AVR UC3 devices support all capacitive button designs, including single buttons, full matrix keyboards, proximity sensors, sliders and wheels. There are virtually no restrictions on what kind of keyboard design the devices will support. Overall, the designer can easily improve the design and reduce the Bill of Material with Microchip UC3 microcontrollers.
