PulseOx-Slide7

The pulse-added volume of oxygenated arterial blood is the ac component, and the dc component represents light absorption by skin pigments and tissue. The ac component is typically µV while the pulse dc amplitude is volts, and the dc component is used to normalize the ac signals. The systolic arterial pressure is defined as the peak pressure in the arteries. Pulse oximetry measurements are timed to coincide with this peak.
