REDFIT-Slide6

The cable side of the connector is designed to be terminated with an Insulation Displacement Connection (IDC). The flat ribbon cable connects directly to the SKEDD contact, providing a quick, reliable connection. By cutting off the insulation of the flat ribbon cable, the plastic insulation seals the area around contact and wire, and provides a durable gastight connection, and protects the wire against environmental influences. No mating connector is needed to connect the REDFIT IDC SKEDD connectors to the circuit board. The contacts are directly connected to the plated through-hole of the PCB. Without a mating connector, a complete part is lost, meaning one potential error source is less common to occur. As a result, a higher process reliability can be achieved. The REDFIT IDC SKEDD Connector has a lower contact resistance of the overall system, since the usual higher contact resistance of the solder joint and the contact resistance of connector and mating connector is gone.
