Evolution of Ethernet to SPE

The last 30 years of Ethernet communication showed a continuous increase in data speed. Look to the chart from the Ethernet alliance road map 2020. Many market segments were able to take advantage of the use of IP-based communication. The first single pair Ethernet channels have been defined in IEEE 802.3 in 2016 starting with a focus on the automotive industry. Single pair Ethernet provides the functionality and data rates of standard Ethernet communication with gigabit, 100 megabit, and 10 megabit and the possibility of length up to 1000 meters for 10 BASE T1-L as defined in the IEEE 802.3 cg standard. This will close the gap for Ethernet communication at the last mile, specifically in industrial and building automation. The benefits of single pair Ethernet can be demonstrated using these two possible applications.
