Like all of VersaLogic’s rugged x86 compatible embedded computers, the Osprey is designed, manufactured, and tested to be reliable in critical and demanding environments. These environments include extreme temperatures, high shock, excessive vibration, and high humidity. It has gone through: a strict component selection and evaluation process, worst-case stress testing, state-of-the-art compliance and validation testing of all high-speed signals, verification of the external interfaces, and extensive power and four-corner thermal testing. All VersaLogic products have been through the most stringent validation testing before they take on a customer’s application. The Osprey is powered by a 4th generation Intel ATOM processor. Formerly known as Bay Trail, this processor is performance optimized for lower power consumption and compatibility with the broadest range of x86 applications and development tools to ensure reduced system cost and development time. There are three different CPU options designed to fit the price and performance goals of most programs. They include single-core, dual-core, and quad-core processors. The quad core model delivers over 5 times the performance of the first generation VersaLogic EPU (the Falcon), with an 18% reduction in power consumption. The single-core version provides over 2 times the performance of the previous generation product, while providing a 25% reduction in power. All the processor models are equipped with Intel’s advanced performance capabilities including Out-Of-Order Execution and Intel 64 architecture. As part of its rugged design, the Osprey includes 2 or 4 Gigabytes of soldered-down memory. This memory helps to support applications such as telemetry, data buffering, and data logging.
