The lower power and compatibility with current releases of Linux allow the Tetra to be incorporated into applications that were previously unachievable with many x86-based embedded computers. Here are some examples of the types of potential customer projects that utilize the power of Tetra’s rich feature set: The first application is a Mesh Network system that utilizes the Arm-based CPU and extended temperature. The system makes use of Tetra’s extensive on-board I/O including the Mini PCIe socket to provide additional communications interfaces. Tetra provides these customers the required performance in a platform optimized for low power consumption. The next example is a Smart Parking system. The extended temperature provided by the Tetra allows this system to work in very cold applications where commercial temperature Arm-based products failed. The availability of the Yocto Linux distribution allowed for code porting from the prior platform to the VersaLogic Tetra. Lastly is an application for marine engine monitoring. This system has the Tetra bolting to the side of ship engines to monitor the acoustic signature. If any abnormal results are detected, the ship's engineer is notified. The on-board CAN Bus was a requirement to interface with the other shipboard systems. The extended temperature and lengthy product availability were key reasons for using the Tetra in this application.
