The features of the MSP430 make it ideal for battery-powered measurement applications. The architecture is designed specifically for ultra-low power applications with specific operating modes implemented to reduce power consumption and extend battery life. The real-time clock mode uses as little as 0.8µA and can transition to industry leading 250mA per 1 MIPS full-speed active mode in less than 1µs. Other important low-power features such as zero-power brown-out reset (BOR) and extremely low pin leakage have enabled MSP430 designers to develop battery-based products that will last for over 10-years from the original battery.
