Previously, when using type B plugs in type AB receptacles, issues with broken receptacles due to angled plug insertion were realized. The solution for this problem is a metal reinforcement on the tab. This insert molded metal plate provides extra strength to the fragile tab. The plate is cut back in the area of the Vbus contact to avoid possible short circuits between the Vbus contact and the plate.
