Solutions for Motion Control PowerSTEP01 Pt 1 of 2 Slide 13

The powerSTEP01 can drive at up to 85 V, high for a stepper motor. The RdsON of each MOSFET of the bridge is 16 mΩ, compared with 300 mΩ for a typical monolithic solution. dSPIN introduced the voltage mode to the market; the traditional method is the current mode. Two powerSTEP01 part numbers exist, the L6470 for voltage mode and L6472 for current mode. The following slides will highlight both modes as this is a key feature that makes the powerSTEP01 unique. Due to the low RdsON, The powerSTEP01 can drive up to 10 A, unlike a monolithic solution that can drive up to 3 A at best. The current of the gate drivers can be programmed to optimize EMI and switching losses. In the voltage mode, 128 microsteps is available for smooth operation.
