The 4th device in the family adds the translator to generate the phase signals. The translator block takes the clock input and generates the phase information based on the direction and control inputs. Like the L297 the device can operate in either full step or half step modes, selected by the control input. Functionally this device replaces two L6202 devices plus the L297 and maintains the same interface to the microcontroller. However, since both bridges are in one package the dissipation is twice the dissipation of the L6202. The current capability of the PowerSPIN family of devices about 1 and a half to 1 and three quarters amps when using the Power SO package mounted on an FR4 board using an optimized layout with a center ground plane.
