Wireless Modules Slide 13

The integration in the target device with the module and the host microcontroller is done with the AT command layer. With the AT commands there is no need for a driver to be installed in the host microcontroller or no driver to talk to the application, the communication relies on the AT commands. With the AT commands there are Configuration variables, Status variables, Asynchronous indications, and Data stream. With this it allows the customer to permanently configure the module, status variable to get a response from the Wi-Fi module, and a synchronous indication like errors and other communications from the module. The most important thing is data stream between the module and the host microcontroller that ultimately is what moves the data from the node to the Internet-of-Things. The application layer allows access to all of the possible layers of the modules through AT commands which include the application utility, the TCP/IP layer, and the upper level of the MAC layer.
