Power modules can be found everywhere: UPS, renewable energies, HEV, and industrial. As already mentioned, the main difference between an IPM and a PM are: PMs do not come with any gate driver but their topology is not fixed (PMs are not always 3-phase topologies but can be designed in many different ways) and that PMs are usually adopted in high power applications (typically higher than 5kW).
