Shown on this slide are some additional application examples. SCRs are commonly found in ignitors, ignitors in lighting control is called ballasts and inside high-intensity discharge ballasts to ignite the ballast. In the HID lamp, an ignitor is required to produce a high-voltage pulse. Typically an SCR can be used to generate the high-voltage pulse to ignite the lamp. In dimmers such as the wall dimmer in a house, Triacs are used to control the intensity of the light fixture.
