In summary, the IEEE 802.3af standard defines the implementation for PoE. This standard accommodates up to 15.4 watts to powered devices via the Ethernet cable connection. Potential PoE applications include any device that requires data and power and is connected to and Ethernet cable. The future IEEE 802.3at standard will increase the PoE power distribution capability to possibly 75 watts per device.
