Power over Ethernet Slide 17
The goal for the new standard - expected to be ratified in 2008 - is to increase the maximum power rating from the 15 to 20 watt range to the 30 to 60 watt range. This will provide greater power for evolving applications such as motorized network cameras, IP telephony videophones, RFID readers, access-control systems, point-of-sale, information kiosks and laptops. Also, the 802.3at standard will allow backward compatibility for 10, 100, and 1000 Base T applications.
