Linear regulators can be classified as either integrated or discrete. An integrated linear regulator has the pass element integrated in the package. A discrete solution has an external pass element. Feedback components may or may not be integrated for either a discrete or integrated regulator. The SC339 is an example of a discrete linear regulator, while the SC4215H is an example of an integrated linear regulator.
