The short circuit protection block compares the feedback terminal voltage with the internal reference voltage VREF. When the feedback terminal voltage has fallen below 0.4V (typ.) and has remained in that state for 1 msec, short circuit protection activates and stops the operation for 16 msec and subsequently initiates a restart. The purpose of this feature is to shut down the device whenever there is accidental short circuit at the output and then restart the device automatically when it is safe to do so by continuing to monitor the feedback voltage. Similar to short circuit protection, over voltage protection function compares the feedback terminal voltage with internal standard voltage VREF. When the feedback terminal voltage exceeds 0.88V (typ.), it turns off the output MOSFET. When the output voltage drops and until it reaches the hysteresis, the device will return to normal operation. The protection circuits are intended for the prevention of damages caused by unexpected accidents. These features should not be used for continuous protective operation.
