Power cords may not be accepted for any use unless they have markings on them to show certification by Underwriters Laboratories or Canadian Standards Association. The marking may be on the original carton or placed on each cord. A separate PTM describes the marking and certification process for cords and cord sets. A harmonization of standard test requirements will soon be completed that will remove a lot of confusion from different agencies. The common requirements and markings make the acceptance of power cords easier and less costly by avoiding duplicate testing and inspection.
