Insulation displacement terminal blocks are designed for fast connections. With IDC blocks, it is not necessary to strip or splice the conductor prior to termination. Wires must be cut to length and inserted into the terminal point. When a conductor is connected, the conductor insulation is cut open and displaced, allowing the conductor to be securely engaged in the “end” position where a gas tight connection is made. An important characteristic is the space-saving twist connection, where wiring time is reduced by up to 60 percent from the traditional screw style connections. A standard screwdriver is used to operate IDC terminal blocks. Switching conditions - open or closed- are clearly indicated by engagement points in the “start” and “end” position.
