"SP-Cap" has a built-in safety feature that also helps to limit combustion of the capacitor is case of a short circuit failure. The conductive polymer electrolyte has a positive temperature coefficient of resistivity above 280ºC as demonstrated in this chart, which shows that the polymer becomes more resistive as temperature increases above 280ºC. This will help to limit the current flow of the short circuit failure and heat generation. Furthermore, if heat generation and temperature rise above 400ºC degrees continues, the conductive polymer’s crystalline polymeric chain will start to break down. This will result in the polymer becoming insulated instead of conductive and reduce heat generation.
