On this slide the orange boxes represent NXP’s existing Kinetis K families, targeted at 32-bit designs. The green boxes reflect the new Kinetis L families. The advantage being shown here is the feature overlap and pin-for-pin compatibility between the two families, allowing the user an easy migration path as their product portfolio broadens it’s own feature offering. Also notice that the Kinetis KL0 family, at the bottom of the table, is pin compatible with the existing S08P family, allowing the user an upward migration path from the 8-bit S08P family as well as a downward migration path from the Kinetis K family.
