This slide here shows the compatibility and key differences between the i.MX 8M family part numbers available. With great general embedded capabilities, optional media features, and commercial and industrial qualifications, this family covers a broad spectrum of the applications processors market. The i.MX 8M Quad family presents video decoding and HDR capabilities while keeping the 4 Cortex-A53s. The i.MX 8M Dual also has the video decoding but only 2 cores present. It provides an effective solution for applications that require less processing power but still need to handle video decoding by hardware. The i.MX 8M QuadLite family is still able to drive two displays and use the GPU for graphics, but it is for applications that do not require video decoding. It keeps full processing capability with the 4 cores.
