The next evolution in the simplification process for MPU based designs is the SAMA5D27 System on Module, or SoM. The SAMA5D27 SoM includes an SAMA5D27 SiP with 1 Gb of DDR2 memory, a 64 Mb Quad-SPI flash memory, and a 10/100 Ethernet PHY along with a 2 Kb EEPROM pre-programmed with a unique MAC address. Lastly, to simplify the power management for the board, there is an integrated power manage IC. All of these components sit on a single sided solderable, industrial-grade PCB to make manufacturing easy. As all of the core components are Microchip orderable part numbers, Microchip will provide full access to the SoM design files so designers may customize the solution based on the needs of the end product or to provide a cost down path for higher volume designs.
