The MAX31865 from Analog Devices is a monolithic solution providing signal conditioning, measurement, linearization, and fault detection for RTDs. The device supports RTDs ranging from Pt100 through Pt1000 in two, three, or four wire configurations without requiring external current sinks. The ADC resolution of the device is such that it can measure temperatures from -200°C to +800°C with an error over that range of less than ±0.5°C. It offers ±50 V of input protection if any of the RTD cables get shorted to an overvoltage source. The device periodically performs checks on each of the four RTD terminals so that it can detect and report virtually a short or open of any of the RTD wires.
