ISL8500x-Slide9

The ISL85009, ISL85012, and ISL85014 offer a selectable overcurrent protection feature which gives power supply designers the flexibility to choose hiccup or latch-off OCP to meet the application requirements. Hiccup mode is a form of auto-recovery overcurrent protection which enables the switching regulator to restart when the fault is removed. Latch-off mode will shut down and latch the switching regulator off when an overcurrent or short circuit fault happens. VIN or EN must be reset to restart the switching regulator. While hiccup mode is popular in many applications, latch-off mode may be preferred in some battery powered systems to eliminate unnecessary battery drain in sustained fault conditions.
