The key features and benefits are listed on this slide. This buck regulator family offers a very compact and efficient solution while the customer-friendly layout features make the parts easy to use. The parts have internal compensation which eliminates the need for external compensation components and takes complexity out of the design. They offer a light load efficiency mode when an application enters a low power (light load) state. This will help to further improve the efficiency of the regulators over all load currents. The devices operate at switching frequencies which can be selected by the customer. Running at higher switching frequency allows for design with smaller inductors. Additionally, by using a higher switching frequency, output ripple can be improved. This results in a smaller solution size, but with the drawback of increased switching losses. The 18V portfolio from Renesas offers excellent stability and high reliability, making it ideal for industrial and infrastructure applications. The high level of efficiency enables the parts to run at a much higher ambient temperature and still deliver a continuous load which reduces product failures. Keeping the die temperature as low as possible, due to the low RDS(ON) FETs, will extend the life of a part and increase the reliability of the end product. One superior feature is that both the high-side and low-side FETs current limit (along with reverse current limit) which fully protects the regulator in an overcurrent event. This translates to a significant increase in the reliability of the end product. Selectable OCP schemes can give flexibility to a customer to qualify the part and use it in various applications.
