Honeywell's NGC Series Limit Switch Slide 5

The primary function of a limit switch is to detect a moving part on a piece of equipment. The limit switch is detecting the “presence” or “absence” of the moving part. It sends an electrical signal back to a control panel which may provide an electrical cut-off, activate a light or alarm or send a signal to the operator of the equipment. Regardless of the application, reliability, durability and safety are the three key factors typically required when specifying a limit switch.
